Half marathon training – week 2, run 4

Long run today, up to 5 miles or 8.2-ish kilometres. My primary goal was to not run too quickly. Embrace the long, steady distance run. Mission accomplished. As usual, the first km wasn’t too fun as my body works out the kinks – I guess it’s okay to use that time as my warmup but if I’m ever racing or trying to set a faster time, I really should do a proper warmup. All said, I felt pretty good. No knee popping, no pain at all really, which is good. Second half of the run was largely uphill and I felt pretty good with it – gradual uphill seems to be a strength for me.

It’s deer calving season, but I haven’t seen any newborns yet. The bucks are out with their huge racks looking tough though, so I don’t want to mess with them. Early morning run meant that there weren’t too many people out. The cafes weren’t quite open yet, but that’s coming. I wonder if the park will get less busy once the UK officially eases back on some of the coronavirus restrictions?
